President Nixon

                                                            President Nixon

President Nixon, signed Title IX, which is a portion of the Education Amendements, on June 23, 1972. The act provides women with protection of fundamental rights, and the signing of this act was a tremendous step in progression towards equality.

President Nixon began a movement which became much larger than his presidency and seemingly its intention when he signed the bill. While the original act made no mention of athletic of sports programs, there has been an undeniable far-reaching effect. Title IX has effected not only high school and intercollegiate sports tremendously, but also women's leadership roles within athletics.
